Director of Music Ministry
Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Niles IL

VISION

The Director of Music Ministry (DMM) is a professional who holds specialized credentials in music and who has a comprehensive understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy. This person of faith is responsible for setting a vision for music ministry at OLR based on the mission articulated by parish leadership. He/she is responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of music within all of the liturgical celebrations of the parish.

DESCRIPTION

The DMM is responsible for setting and executing a vision regarding the role of music in the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. As a Director-level position, the DMM is expected to provide leadership, anticipation, and initiative. Central to this role is the recruiting and formation of strong cantors and instrumentalists, as well as the planning of liturgical music which leads the parish into powerful experience of worship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops a vision and implementation strategy as to the role of sacred music in the evangelization of the faithful.

• Schedules and trains musicians.

• Recruits, motivates, and directs all choirs of Our Lady of Ransom (adult, children, Filipino).

• Selects and plans music for all Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, special celebrations, weddings and funerals.

• Prepares a budget for the parish music program.

• Ministers at Sundays, Holy Days of Obligations, weddings and funerals.

• Keeps abreast of current developments in liturgy and music and directs music ministers to available training workshops and formational opportunities.

•Develops recruiting strategy to meet need for musicians and choir members.

• Maintains the music library.

REQUIREMENTS

• An active, practicing Roman Catholic.
• Master of Arts or Licentiate of Sacred Theology in music or liturgy with three years of experience in Catholic music ministry and liturgy.
• Proficiency in a musical art (organ, piano, or vocal). Strong preference will be given to candidates skilled in the organ.
• Knowledge of various forms of liturgical music, including: traditional and modern hymnody, Gregorian chant and polyphony.
• Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
• Possesses music theory knowledge and able to teach sacred music to musicians at various skill levels.
• Experience and proficiency in leadership and management.
• Expert in liturgical rubrics and ritual books.
• Knowledgeable of relevant church documents on liturgy and music.

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER (News Nightly)

DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Producer will work with the Producer and the entire EWTN News Nightly editorial team to produce content with a strict deadline for a daily newscast.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Produce segments on national/international news that help viewers to understand the day’s news from a Catholic perspective.
• Contribute to a lively, fast-paced newscast that includes news packages, voice overs, and discussion segments.
• Act as fill-in line producer when needed.
• Assist in writing scripts for newscast and TV news brief.
• Assist in producing Rome/Vatican content.
• Produce engaging content for broadcast and digital platforms.
• Work with editors to facilitate production.
• Watch and log video and sound for various events.
• Communicate with production crew about executing the newscast.
• Review and pull video for stories (packages and VOs) and monitor AP wires.
• Assist in content for social media.
• Visualize and order graphics.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in TV broadcast news, producing newscasts in medium or large markets.
• Possess solid news judgement and attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to visually and creatively tell a story and engage viewers using graphics and other elements.
• Experience utilizing broadcast software programs (i.e., iNews, AP ENPS).
• Excellent broadcast writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Collaborate easily within a team and also work well independently.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic Faith and EWTN’s mission.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends/nights when required.

CORRESPONDENT (News Nightly)

DESCRIPTION:
The News Nightly Correspondent works with the Senior Producer and the entire team to gather, produce, and present daily news from a Catholic perspective.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Gather, produce, and present news packages, VOs, VOSOTs, demonstrating knowledge of current events and public policy from a Catholic perspective.
• Pitch original story ideas at daily editorial meetings that examine the intersection of Catholic Social Teaching and public policy.
• Develop sources and contacts in Washington, D.C. and around the country.
• Collaborate with the editorial and technical teams to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos, and graphics).
• Use various social media platforms.
• Stay up to date on current events through newspapers, websites, and Catholic publications.
• Multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
• Establish and maintain relationships within the community. This may include public appearances and covering events of relevance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 3 years’ broadcast news experience.
• Excellent news judgment.
• Strong journalistic skills and ability to follow standard journalistic practices, particularly accuracy, honesty and integrity.
• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources, including social media (ability to engage audience on digital platforms in the public space).
• Practicing Catholic with demonstrated understanding of the Catholic faith and ability to apply to stories being covered.
• Strong on-air presentation - must be credible, personable and passionate.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with proper attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as work well within a team.
• Must embrace peer-to-peer feedback and constructive criticism designed to enhance performance.
• Familiarity with AP products.
• Flexibility on work schedule (some nights and weekends may be required) with the ability to travel as needed on short notice.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
